Dr Chris Beem


Dr Christopher Beem is a Specialist Anaesthetist who works in both the public and private sectors in South-East Queensland.

Dr Beem graduated with his medical degree from University of Queensland in 1980.

Dr Chris Beem He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Australian Navy between 1983 and 1985 and was posted to a fleet as the assigned Medical Officer from July 1983 to December 1984. He went on to complete his residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and Lismore Base Hospital. He was awarded fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 1991.

Dr Beem has been heavily involved in many charity and aid medical outreach programs, including:

  • The Australian Medical Aid Pacific Islands Project 
  • Anaesthesia Support Services for Paediatric Surgery Papua New Guinea 
  • Interplast Mission Sumba Island Indonesia 
  • Medical Aid Mission Operation Smile 
  • Anaesthetic Support ENT Outreach Program Aboriginal Health

Over the course of his career thus far, Dr Beem has taken an active role in mentoring and educating junior anaesthetists. He was Supervisor of Anaesthetic Registrar Training Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane from 1992 to 2001.

Dr Beem has held many administrative and management roles in the various organisations with which is involved. These include:

  • Member, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital Anaesthetic Advisory Committee 2000-present 
  • Chairman, Axxon Health 2006-13 
  • Director, Anaesthetic Services, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital 2009-13 
  • Director, Anaesthetic Services, Queensland Eye Hospital
